Annual Meeting

Review

The 6th annual meeting of the ISDT was held from 21 to 23 September 2018 in Frankfurt am Main. According to the conference report, the society met in the lecture hall of the university hospitals for a scientifically demanding meeting, prepared and organised by the meeting directors Prof. Dr. Helmut Schöfer and Dr. Bartosz Malisiewicz.

The scientific part began with a leprosy update, a double lecture on the microbiology and clinical features of bartonelloses, tropical STIs and granulomatous tropical skin diseases. Further contributions addressed the difficulties of medical laboratory work in resource-poor countries, tropical dermatology in Mauritius, rattlesnake bite, cutaneous leishmaniasis, volunteering at the Regional Dermatology Training Centre in Moshi, smartphones in tropical and travel dermatology, the tinea epidemic caused by Trichophyton mentagrophytes in India, acne tropicalis, the consequences of bleaching, Brazil’s national leprosy programme, cutaneous amoebiasis, protothecoses, psoriasis therapy in the tropics, onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariases, plague, toxicological topics and internet resources on tropical dermatology.

Society and working groups

The report also mentions the working groups “Tropical Dermatology Courses in the Tropics” and “Cambodia”, which were newly founded at the time. The general assembly was particularly well attended because of modernised amendments to the statutes. On the Sunday, an additional advanced seminar towards the “Tropical and Travel Dermatology” certificate took place.
