Tropical Dermatology Courses
With the support of the DDG and in cooperation with dermatology colleagues in the tropics, we offer overseas courses “on site” — where the diseases are at home.
The concept
Under the guidance of experienced tropical dermatologists, patients with skin diseases rarely seen in Europe are presented and discussed in small groups. Practical knowledge can be acquired close to the patient: How do I examine a patient for leprosy? How do I treat cutaneous leishmaniasis? How is good medicine possible in low-resource countries?
Alongside the clinical rounds, the programme includes seminars, case demonstrations and direct exchange with the local dermatology colleagues — with theory and practice interlocking directly.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the courses planned for 2020 to 2022 had to be cancelled — since 2023 the series has been continued. Programmes and meeting reports of all previous courses can be found in the meeting archive.

The courses working group
The ISDT Tropical Dermatology Courses working group was founded to support the Board in organising future courses. It is led by Prof. Dr. med. Helmut Schöfer (Frankfurt am Main) and Prof. Dr. med. Isaak Effendy (Bielefeld).
